Ya hopefully you are right. But I think we need to look at what ye have done over the last 10 years and staying in division 1 has been the base of the success ye have had. So for us over the next 3 to 4 years we have to put alot into the league and try stay in division 1 even if it means we have poor championships. Best of look to Monaghan id love to see ye win sam and who knows. Ye are in a great position now dave1988 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1272 - 17/06/2025 07:05:15 2618569 Link 0 |
This is my take on the managerial situation Davys time is up we thank him and move on. Some of the older people commenting on facebook about him would want to grow up abit. Tarismelting22 (Roscommon) - Posts: 792 - 17/06/2025 08:48:17 2618580 Link 0 |
I agree with a lot of what you are saying. I think we have 5/6 lads who should be given a proper chance 5 /6 games straight. The game has changed so much since fergal management at this level and he hasn't exactly had a successful club career over the last few years. Id love to see someone like Kieran donaghy come in who would lift everything and he could through his all Ireland medals on the table with everything else and demand respect and he would get it.

Another thing is we probably need to start looking at a few players with real pace and power and real athletic lads. I sometimes think players on the team are very similar. Good skilful players but lack that pace and power the top teams have. Players like the Donegal wing back who could destroy you from wing back. I don't know if we produce players like that in roscommon. One lad at the minute at underage who has that pace is brown and unfortunately injured. Conor hand has electric pace and id hope over the next few months he can bulk up and become a top class player. Also what age is charlie O'Carroll. Seems to be flying this year and never saw him on underage teams. dave1988 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1272 - 17/06/2025 10:18:09 2618610 Link 0 |
I agree on we are now entering a period of transition and Div 1 next year might be hard going. There is plenty of raw talent there if it can be brought on. It will be inevitable that some great servants will step away. As long as they stay injury free and they want to committ I'd agree, try and keep Enda and Diarmuid and Stack on as long as possible. Look at McCarron, Conroy, O'Shea, Murphy. If a player is still fit and they want to play for the county they shouldn't be writeen off just becuase they've hit the 30 mark. Hopefully we can get Eoin McCormack back as well. reckon he is well suited to the new rules. At least Davy has given huge exposure to lads you were on that u20 all Ireland final team to playing against the best teams in the country so hopefully they can push on. Agree that Conor Devaney has a smart football brain. It would be good to have him involved. The word around is that Davy wants to stay on but I don't see that happening. Mention on here of Kieran Donaghy. Before Davy was appointed, there were reports that Donaghy had got the Roscommon job and he had to publicly deny the reports. Any views on Nigel Dineen.? He had a superb record as Roscommon U21 Manager. Two Connacht titles and two All Ireland final appearances between 2012 and 2014. We lost the Connacht U21 Final in 2013 in extra time to Galway who won the All Ireland.

Yea Nigel had a good underage record. Has he been involved with management recently? He'd bring passion and a bit of steal into a team anyway. Agree on above point as well that we could do with more mobile players with a good engine and bursts of pace in around the middle third. Conor Hand looks like someone who could fit the bill. I'd have thought Fallon might be as well. Brian Stack shows that but he's usually tied up at full back man marking. FullOfPorter (Roscommon) - Posts: 198 - 17/06/2025 14:22:44 2618730 Link 0 |
Agreed with the above. Time for integration of a lot more talent that's in the county. I'd throw the following names into the mix as well that are all playing decent in club level with their clubs at present. Don't many counties now have a development panel running simultaneously to main squad Caelim Keogh - Pearses Conor Harley - Pearses Conor Ryan - Pearses Jack Nevin - Pearses Paul Carey - Pearses Paddy Gavin - Clan Bobby Nugent - Brigids Brendan Murphy - Brigids Jack Lohan - Dominics Michael Moran - Dominics Conor Grogan - Ros Gaels Jack Donnelly - Ros Gaels Liam Coyle - St Aidans Conor Kelly - Boyle Darragh Walsh - Oran Colin Walsh - Oran Eoghan Murray- Oran Rob Heneghan- Glaveys Brian Greene - Eire Og Diarmaid Mc Gann - Strokestown moros (Roscommon) - Posts: 1148 - 17/06/2025 14:34:12 2618739 Link 0 |
Is Richard Hughes back playing with Roscommon Gaels. He looked good the last time he played with Roscommon

Nigel Dineen led Elphin to the county intermediate title last year. For those going how about transition well we have already entered that, a lot of the players in their 30s their best days are behind them, some of them might get one final bounce out of them with a new manager but not with allowing Burke stay on. On Saturday of the 20 that played 11 of them have made their championship debuts in the last three years.

We have had 5 decent to good U20 teams in a row. Some have come through but there's a talent pool of up to 50 to pick from. As Analyser says a new manager should keep some of the oul lads on for 1 more year anyway. Davy M, Donie and Ciaráin the 3 oldest may feel like retiring no matter what but Enda and Diarmuid plus Ronan Daly will hopefully stay with a new man in. agree, its a common cycle with us consistently producing skillful, small and fast players who standout at underage/club football and then throwing them into county football and hoping for the best. it doesn't work like that anymore. a few have named players, who could make the step-up but are they ready. unless the county board think outside the box in terms of players athletic development, we can continue to go up and down in div1 and go through new managers every few years. this is not a new managers issue to develop players physical for a even more high paced game going forward.

There is a sequence that would be recommended before the manager for 2026 and beyond should be selected. Timing is very important and should not be allowed to drag on for too long. The club championship will be starting and any players who may be considering retirement deserve to know the situation. For what it is worth here are some points for consideration. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 762 - 17/06/2025 17:05:00 2618796 Link 0 |
Yes some of the older lads will call time now all owe the county nothing at this stage great servants but still important that too many of them don't depart just yet with a new manager to come in and challenge of Div 1 football ahead. Players on the panel this year and will be aged 21 to 25 in 2026 Shane McGinley,Senan Lambe,Colm Neary,Oisin Cregg,Caelim Keogh,Declan Kenny,Conor Hand,Ben O'Carroll,Rúáidhrí Fallon,Paddy Gavin,Daire Cregg,Keith Doyle Robbie Dolan ,Shane Cunnane,James Fitzpatrick,Conor Carroll, Pearse Frost, Tim Lambe,Dylan Ruane,Bobby Nugent Plenty of talent to work with there for any new manager. Others I would consider bringing into the panel next year or the years ahead. (I might have forgot a few) Colm Walsh,Adam McDermott,Tomas Crean,Jack Lohan,Conor Ryan,Jack Tumulty,Eoin Colleran,Eoin Ward,Darragh Heneghan,Daniel Casey,Rory Hester,Conor Harley,James Connolly,Rob Heneghan,,Tommy Morris,Cillian Campbell,Rory Carthy Lads that are still U20 in 2026 such as Conor Grogan,Eoghan Carthy,John Curran,John McGuinness,Niall Heneghan etc should be kept to that level as the step up is far greater than it was when we had the U21 grade. Completely forgot he was over Elphin. He might be a good man to pursuade Enda and a few to go to the well again. Can't help thinking this was another great year for a leftfield team to break through if you had your ducks in a row. No great team, the rules a bit of a leveller as in everyone trying to figure them out. FullOfPorter (Roscommon) - Posts: 198 - 17/06/2025 19:08:54 2618825 Link 0 |
I know what you are saying about Nigel but my fear with him being manager is that he would bring in coaches that he knows and at county level these days you need to look further. Have we top coaches in roscommon? I don't think we do because if we had they would be coaching at county level somewhere
