The. Backroom team is not prob in reality Galway just don't have the players to compete at the top in history gaa Galway have won 5 all Ireland senior titles so back room team make no difference what so ever Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 1061 - 20/09/2023 16:41:18 2504989 Link 1 |
Thanks for clarifying. I had thought that Des Ryan was in Setanta College

There's plenty of talent available. First thing that needs to be done is a new no. 3, 8 & 9. Badly lacking there this season.

Mighty game in the U20 final. Aaron Niland already way too good for the age grade even though he still has 3 more years at the level. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 888 - 20/09/2023 20:43:06 2505014 Link 1 |
Seven from play along with 8 or 9 frees for Aaron in the end. Just ridiculously good. Please god he stays injury free galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 888 - 20/09/2023 21:28:32 2505020 Link 1 |

Does anybody know what Lukaz' next venture is? Hopefully not another intercounty team. A man with a serious CV, best of luck to him. GalwaysFinest (Galway) - Posts: 193 - 21/09/2023 11:36:59 2505037 Link 1 |
You may find them but it's unlikely they are going to suddenly appear in the club championship having risen without trace. It might be more worthwhile to look to fill positions we are short in and identify players who can do that rather than looking for 'new players' per se, anyway Stool Pigeon (Galway) - Posts: 906 - 21/09/2023 11:43:19 2505038 Link 1 |

They have to be giants then? If Johnny Coen or David Burke were coming into their prime as hurlers now you probably wouldnt even give them a place in the squad!

Who are the 'big lads' that are out there? Genuine question. To me, a lot of the best minors of recent years have been small classy players. Players who will find it tough at senior intercounty. Greg Thomas is a big unit, but dont know would he be senior intercounty material. Is there anyone else out there? Is Cian Salmon worth a look? Havent seen him play recently bar setting up three goals for Mark Kennedy against O/M. Joe Mooney Loughrea? Big unit too. Other than that, apart from anyone who is already in with Galway, you'd have to say most clubs best forwards arent big men. GalwaysFinest (Galway) - Posts: 193 - 21/09/2023 22:42:40 2505133 Link 1 |
Having watched the U20 hurling Finals in Duggan Park in the last 2 weeks, its great that finally this grade has finally been given precedence in the calendar and not played off in depths of winter and following year as was the case in years past. Feel the U20 has taken the place of the Minor-U17 as the main hurling competition at Underage. Hard to fathom how they can't make this grade work in other counties when they can in a dual county like Galway festy (Galway) - Posts: 58 - 22/09/2023 09:33:46 2505141 Link 1 |
Dont get me wrong there is definitely a place for 2 or 3 smaller type lads in a team. but not in the current Galway team as we already have 11-12 of them.

I just mentioned 3 here a day or two ago. Martin McManus, John Cooney, Rory Burke. Joe Mooney is definitely one who should be brought in and given 2 or 3 starts in the league to see if he could offer something. clare_sparrow (Galway) - Posts: 441 - 22/09/2023 11:39:34 2505172 Link 1 |
2 of the 3 players you had mentioned were already in with Galway last season, and didn't make much of an impression truth be told

David Burke is a big player. Its not that they have to be tall it is their conditioning.Look at Limerick they are built like rugby players and able to take tackles like rugby players and can play hurling.Small light players are being physically taken off the ball.I am not saying that they should be but that is the way the game has gone in recent times and is being allowed to go by the GAA.We have a lovely small player who by a long stretch the best hurler on our team but he gets manhandled out of the way by bigger lads that are not half the player he is.He is tough out and gets stuck in but it's not easy when refs ignore what going on at times.
