The semi-finals of the Galway Senior Football and Hurling Championships will be played as double-headers on successive Saturday nights under the new floodlights in Pearse Stadium.

However, the decision hasn’t gone down well with many supporters who would rather see the games played in Tuam Stadium and Kenny Park due to the traffic and parking issues associated with the Salthill venue. The football semi-finals will take place on October 11, and the hurling semi-finals on October 18.

In the SFC semi-finals, Corofin will meet Salthill/Knocknacarra and Maigh Cuilinn will take on Tuam Stars. Corofin remain on course for a three-in-a-row of Frank Fox Cups after easing to a 2-20 to 0-10 victory over Dunmore MacHales in last weekend’s quarter-finals.

In the other quarter-finals, Salthill/Knocknacarra demolished city rivals St James’ by 5-15 to 0-16, Maigh Cuilinn overcame neighbours Oughterard by 2-19 to 2-12, while Tuam Stars needed extra-time to get by Killannin on a 1-21 to 0-17 scoreline.

Corofin’s second team have also qualified for the Galway IFC semi-finals where they will face Caltra. An Spidéal will meet St Brendan’s face off in the other last-four tie.
