The Westmeath SFC quarter-final line-up is complete after Caulry recorded a big win over neighbours Moate All-Whites yesterday to claim the last knockout spot.
Pat Flanagan’s charges qualified from the weaker Section B on scoring difference ahead of Moate and Killucan after 0-10 from county goalkeeper Conor McCormack and 1-6 from Senan Baker inspired them to a 2-18 to 1-13 win at TEG Cusack Park. Killucan overcame St Malachy’s by 1-22 to 1-10 in Rochfortbridge, but it was all in vain.
Caulry will now face Coralstown/Kinnegad in the quarter-final next Sunday, with Garrycastle and Mullingar Shamrocks facing off in the other last-six tie on Saturday. Both games will have 4.15pm throw-ins at TEG Cusack Park.
Garrycastle suffered a surprise 1-16 to 1-18 loss to Tang – who have forced a relegation playoff against St Malachy’s – but the former kingpins had already qualified from Section B.
Meanwhile, The Downs and St Loman’s have qualified directly for the semi-finals as the top two finishers in Section A. The Downs made it five wins from wins when accounting for Mullingar Shamrocks by 0-15 to 1-6 on Saturday, while holders St Loman’s powered past an understrength Tyrrellspass on a 3-16 to 1-6 scoreline.
Tyrrellspass and Athlone – who lost to Coralstown/Kinnegad by 2-12 to 0-21 – are out and drop to Section B next year.
