Seamus Flanagan is predicting another Limerick v Cork showdown in the All-Ireland SHC final, despite being extremely wary of Clare this weekend.
Limerick powered to a 2-30 to 1-18 victory over their neighbours in the Munster SHC round-robin series almost two months ago before dethroning Cork in the provincial final, but the former Treaty full forward is expecting a different Banner side to turn up on Sunday.
“I see Limerick and Clare being an absolute cracker of a game,” the five-time All-Ireland winner said at the finals preview of the All-Ireland Minor Championships last week.
“They both bring the absolute best out of each other and I think that the round-robin game in Ennis was a blip. And with the crowd that’s going to travel to that game, the rivalry that’s there – they’re neighbours and I think that it is going to be a cracker!”
Flanagan added: “It does feel like a last dance for a lot of the Clare boys.
“Tony Kelly, Shane O’Donnell — there were rumours that Shane wasn’t going to come back this year. Peter Duggan, Conor Cleary, David McInerney, the list goes on of those players that are maybe teetering on the edge of, ‘Will I or won’t I come back’ after having the success of two years ago.
“That’s a dangerous animal to be facing for Limerick and they’re an unknown entity in a sense.
“I still think there is another gear in this Limerick team and I do think Clare will bring that out in them.”
