Two-time All-Ireland SHC winning goalkeeper Michael Walsh has welcomed Pat Gilroy’s involvement in the committee tasked with selecting the new Kilkenny senior hurling manager.
Gilroy, who led Dublin to All-Ireland SFC glory in 2011 before going on to have a brief spell in charge of the county’s hurlers, is part of a six-man selection committee that also includes county board chairman PJ Kenny, vice-chairman Jim Fennelly, secretary Séamus Reade, former Kilkenny selector and coach Michael Dempsey, and John Hickey.
“A very good call. He has the business side stuff, obviously being a top businessman, and the management side in both hurling and football,” Walsh told the KCLR Hurling Podcast.
“He is obviously a very shrewd operator. Whoever picked this committee, they have done very well.
“It will obviously be a very thorough process. I would very much trust that committee to come up with the right person.”
Henry Shefflin remains the bookies’ favourite to succeed the recently-departed Derek Lyng in the manager’s role.
