Ephie Fitzgerald is set to return for a second spell as Waterford senior football manager.

The Nemo Rangers clubman will be handed a two-year term with the option of a third, subject to ratification at the next county board meeting.

Fitzgerald previously managed the Deise in 2022 and '23 after leading the Cork senior ladies to All-Ireland success in 2016. He succeeds former Meath footballer Paul Shankey, who stepped down after two years in July. His backroom team has yet to be finalised.

Meanwhile, James O'Connor and Darragh O'Sullivan have been named as the new Waterford minor and U20 hurling managers respectively.

O'Connor, who guided Waterford to an All-Ireland MHC title this summer, takes over as U20 boss from Ken McGrath, with Ballygunner’s All-Ireland club winning manager O’Sullivan replacing him as minor supremo. O'Sullivan's management team will include David Franks, who was his right-hand man in Ballygunner, and Darragh Duggan.
