Former Meath minor star Conor Nash has undergone surgery on his neck for an ongoing nerve issue that has saw him ruled out for the remainder of the AFL season.

Nash moved Down Under after joining Hawthorn as a category B rookie in 2016, making his AFL debut two years later.

This year has saw the Simonstown clubman sidelined with the nerve issue and Hawthorn confirmed that he underwent surgery last week, which has proved successful.

"There was an immediate improvement in some of his symptoms. He's feeling a lot better, so we're very positive about the outcome. We're now putting a plan together for him over the off-season and then pre-season, which would see him return to full contact, most likely in the new year,” a statement on the Hawks’ website read.

Nash himself also posted an update on his recovery from the surgery on Instagram:

“Not the season I had envisioned for myself but on the mend now thanks to Dr. Winder and the team at Sydney Brain and Spine.”
