Former Roscommon sharpshooter Nigel Dineen has been named as the new senior football manager of Westmeath club Caulry.

Dineen, who has managed Elphin and Strokestown as well as the Roscommon U21s, takes over from another high-profile manager in Pat Flanagan, who will be in charge of St Mary’s, Granard this year. By coincidence, his former Roscommon team-mate Shane Curran previously managed Caulry for three years and led them to a first Westmeath SFC semi-final appearance since 1946 in 2023.

Also a former Sligo selector during Paul Taylor’s tenure, Dineen will be assisted by former club and county player Alan Fitzpatrick (coach) and Maryland’s Philip Rainey (selector).

“We are delighted to announce Nigel Dineen as the manager of our senior team for 2026, alongside Alan Fitzpatrick as coach and Philip Rainey as selector,” the Mount Temple-based club said.

“Nigel comes to our club with a wealth of knowledge, having led the Roscommon U21 football team to two All-Ireland finals against Dublin in 2012 and 2014. We wish Nigel and his team the very best of luck for the coming year!”
