Tipperary won’t be appealing the straight red card Darragh McCarthy received in last Sunday’s Munster SHC defeat to Cork.

The U20 star was sent off less than a minute into the SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh encounter for lashing out at Cork opponent Sean O’Donoghue. McCarthy was subsequently issued with a one-match ban for striking with minimum force, meaning he will miss Saturday week’s trip to Ennis to face All-Ireland champions Clare.

He will, however, be available for Tipp’s Munster U20HC final the following Wednesday as the ban doesn’t apply at that level.

Speaking during RTÉ’s coverage of the game, former Tipp manager Liam Sheedy felt McCarthy couldn’t have any complaints.

“We have seen it in every championship game so far that there has been that bit of needle in the first few minutes, but if you cross and if there's a hurley movement, you're in trouble,” he said.

“I do feel for Darragh; he's an exceptional kid, and it’s a tough learning period.”
