Players To Improve The County Panel in 2016?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Killian Clarke who missed most of the League and all of the Championship is 1. He wouldn't be similiar a better footballer.
Paul Smith, Dara McVeety, James McEnroe, Niall Murray, Ciaran Brady, would be a few others who can play in plenty of positions.

Getting Keating back would probaly make up for the loss of Dunne. and Givney would also make up for the loss of Damien Reilly.

Getting Keating back and losing Dunne doesn't improve the situation much. Dunne can feed of Keating because Keating can win his own ball , Dunne can't . Totally different type of players who actually feed of each other. Dunne wasn't at his best last year but he's not an out and out full forward. He's an opportunist who can stick a few away when given the chance. But he's not a target man capable of winning a high ball. Corner forward playing off a full forward not the other way about .Players need to be given positions and time to adjust in them. Giveny probably got disheartened been chopped and changed from midfield to half forward line to full forward line.

Givney opted out of the panel because of an ankle problem. He jhad surgery earlier in the year and barely played with Ballymun this year because of it. Keating scored 5 points off Neil McGee in the Ulster Championship in 2012, he is capable of scoring he is gets the right ball. Maybe not as accurate as Dunne, though Dunne misses handy chances too,

I felt Giveny was been messed about position wise before he opted out. Keating scoring rate in 2012 is irrelevant in 2016. He's needed as a target man who can hold the ball up or lay it off . Yes he can also take a score but it's a target man we need badly because Argue didn't click in that roll this year.

To be fair I think both Keating and Givney are terrific players if utilised correctly, but when they were available the manager persisted with negative football which stifled both of them.

I remember well the day Keating gave Neil McGee the toughest game he's ever had, he had the promise back then to be a magnificent full forward.

Argue is a midfielder who was put into the FF position because Cavan were lacking a ball winner in there. The first couple of games in the league showed that, plus the size of the other Cavan forwards in the ff line was quite small, Bud Fizt Martin Dunne and Tom Hayes.

They played the ball in faster this year but lacked a good ball winner which Keating is . Conor Madden would also be capable of playing inside.

Apparently Keating is not coming back and Dunne and McEnroe are not making themselves available this year

Players to improve the County Panel is not a fair heading for this post as its sounds as if the current players are not up to it.
The post should say...managers and tactics to improve the County Panel because lets face it, Hyland has been there long enough
and has done absolutely nothing to improve it in my opinion. Cavan Football is now back to where it was when the man took over, and the County Board have
given him the job again.

Edward Snowden wouldn't be able to figure out what this means.

Oh I get it now, it's Hyland's fault. I see what he was saying now. It was just so unexpected that it threw me.

Nobody said it was Hylands fault but he has got to share the blame. It must be someone's fault that players are dropping out of the squad. They can't be all injured.

Well Seanie is one of the best scoring forwards in the county this past 10 years. If he is prepared to come back in and make the effort after all the flack he got well it's time for us supporters to accept that. All anyone wants to see is the best players playing for the County all giving 100%. And Seanie is one of the best players. He could do a job for us if not for 70 mins well at least 35. Both Hyland and Johnston have been brave here and only time will tell if it's the correct move . For the sake of Cavan football be need to give it a chance.

This is a sad day. Its a desperate measure by Hyland. I wouldn't call this a progressive move and its a blow to the underage players who would be on the fringe let alone a complete embarrassment nationally.

Well if this information is correct it has to be the right call and if he like the others are willing to give 100% thats all that matters to Cavan at the end of the day isn't it.

This is a ridiculous move by Terry and indicates how desperate he's becoming. Seanie hasn't played well on the national stage, Wicklow game aside, since he left the influence of Niall Moyna at DCU. Terry's no Niall Moyna so I predict he will find, as Kildare footballers and hurlers did, that he is over-rated. Also, how can Terry look our younger players in the eye now and demand their loyalty? This is going to a tough 12 months.
