Can't really blame Barry Reilly. I feel he got a raw deal last year.

Delighted that Flannigan and McKeever have done the honorable thing and stood down I wish a few more would do the same starting with Mackey, Keating will not be back with hyland not sure about givney either. The amount on the panel that think they are the greatest we Cavan ever had the privilege to watch are in cookoo land.

Last year was a farce. The goal keeping saga was the worst. Mossy Corr was told in Jan he was surplus to requirements & he put his head down trained hard & was prob best player last year. Barry reilly is a gem not a robust machine, simply a player of slight stature who uses his feet & vision if you can t incorporate that into a game plan. You ve no knowledge...

M Mc Keever one of the best players our generation ever seen in Blue. The fact he was nt used in last ten min against monaghan cost us the game. M Lyng brought nothing..

Too many players with their eye stateside its running our championship & their own motives. I think after the age of 20/21 forget it..

If terry Hyland fails to bring in Barry Reilly James McEnroe & to an extent R Flanagan he has let his man management down again..

New players like to see few oldies back & maybe young Faulkner & Arva had a good corner forward. I think last years Minor captain from ballyhaise is good enough also.. All the rest u mentioned might make squad players might!

This year will be another year lost

Fredflint where's your contribution? Maybe because your pro Hyland you have no contribution to make . Roll on 2017

It's a disgrace to say players have done the honourable thing retiring and others should follow. That's nothing to do with manager. These lads have sacrificed over ten years of their lives and made personal sacrifices.

In fairness Mowbar has pretty much left me speechless with his last post. It epitomises this forum. Tom Smith and Gaelstud who are clearly WUMs have their contributions posted regardless of what it might be.

If you don't hammer Hyland at every chance then you're seen as pro-Hyland; you can't be balanced, you have to be pro or anti-Hyland.

Oh and stats, stats defeat all, except when it doesn't back up your point.

So long.

Skelling the stats are that there are more players leaving the panel than joining it. Now that's a worrying stat whether your pro or anti Hyland

My post was not saying they did not give great service over the years they did and I will be the first to say it. Mark McKeever was sat on the bench for most of the last two years and I congratulate him in doing the honorable thing by stepping aside because he would be flogging all year for more of the same. Ronan has been carrying an injury for over two years same as the one the finished Martin Cahill's inter county career and this is why I congratulated them. I hope more will do the same for next year they will be sitting on the bench 95% of the time do you want that do they want that it's unfair on the dedicated individual but time to know when to draw the line. Thats all I am saying and showing them no disrespect.

Awwwnow, my contribution here often get hidden in a sea of nonsense that you are the likes of you post.

What do you want the manager to do, kidnap players that for one reason or another can't commit??

One way in Cavan to have yourself solidified as being of legendary status is to not commit, dont play or get injured. You are then heralded as being brilliant. McKeever was a great servant but was well off the pace last year and cost us a point against Roscommon in the league. Flanagan has injury problems, he always committed to the cause no matter who was manager so to imply he left due to the current manager is disgusting. Both players are great servants and I wish them well.

Barry Reilly is a good footballer, has great potential but he lacks pace and he lack strength and conditioning requried for inter county. Were you at the Ulster club game last weekend and did you compare Barry to Kilcoos best? He needs to work on that gap or he will never make a county footballer. Martin Dunne has the same problem.

Givney is back. Keating will also be back.

What we need is the likes of Turlough Mooney, Keating, Givney, Madden mixed in what was in last years team. We could also do without some of the disgusting whingers on here that knock everything and anyone for their own little agendas.

Players leaving county panels is not a new phenomenon nor is it the sole preserve of Cavan football,it happens every year in most counties.I say most counties as of course within a successful county there'd be a lesser rate of attrition although even in these counties lads have being known to take time out in the early cup competitions and league games.

Here's a piece by Paul O Dowd in 1999 after leaving the county panel.

Ahhnow sums up his bitterness with that,"roll on next year" comment. So pathetically obsessed with proving that he's right he wishes for a bad year for his own county.

Look its a thankless job made worse when some are treated badly some players go out in a blaze of publicity and bitterness others just leave quitely without a fuss and either come back when management change or pursue some other sport or hobbie there were some crazy decisions made come championship this year what the reasoning or agenda behind it who know in my humble opinion it caused untold havoc in the dressing room sometimes that cant be won back either way a new season is about to start i await with interest the panel my heart would love to stay in div 2 my head well i cant see it maybe i will be proved wrong am not going to bad mouth any player they give up their time a lot of it best of luck to the lads who have left and to the lads who stayed and to the new faces work hard and make it happen

excellent piece there by Paul O' Dowd. amazing to think that was written 16 years ago.
if anything I would say the traing has got harder and more frequent. the sacrifices are worse, something's got to give.

According to the Celt, Martin Dunne and Damian O'Reilly have opted out for 2016 in addition to Ronan Flanagan.

Flanagan a loss for his experience. . Dunne lacks strength for Inter County. Damien Reilly a decent player, but there is about 10 players similiar to him.

Foolsgold if your not busy maybe you would name that 10?? As for Dunne he's a scoring forward that's light and needs it on a plate but in his defence he like Johnston knows what to do with it when he gets it. Biggest problem is lack of players around to give it to him.
