Weather forecast giving wet and windy weather for tomorrow night. Will be a game of two halves. With and against the wind. However we need to keep 15 on the field. Nothing stupid. This is essentially a championship game. Jerome Henry (Mayo) in the centre.
Best of luck Cavan. In every game so far we have been there or there abouts and that's due to the never give up attitude that this team have. Keep it going lads. One big win needed here.

If its wet and windy, we may move the game from breffni, what about kingscourt's pitch?, good lights, might suit our firm ground runners (tongue in cheek!)..Best of luck Cavan, hoping for a more attacking display, and hopefully a goal, to get that monkey off our back also about not being able to score goals.

Winnable game providing nobody does anything stupid and gets sent off. That has been our downfall at home, nothing to do with the pitch.

Without doute this is a game we should and can win.. Westmeath dont look too clever at the back so hopefully we can get in for a goal or two... I think regardless of the results from now till our Champo exit will see the end of the Hyland era and hopefully this deplorable boreing style of football.. We have a lot of good young players comming through and with the right people in charge we could seesome success at senior level... For now lets get a home win and be safe in div 2 before we travel to Navan...

Bit harsh on Terry there Sean66.

For sure I'm not his biggest fan, but at the same time you have to acknowledge he has brought more professionalism to the setup. A lot of people get carried away with Mickey mouse things like McKenna cups and All Ireland junior competitions, but I don't fall for that kind of thing, leagues and championships are what matters. It is unambiguously clear that we're a better team now than we were when he took us over. However, I do agree a new man is needed to bring us forward. Anyway, this is not the time or place for this discussion.

Best of luck to Terry and the lads tomorrow, as always, I'll be there.

Westmeath have a dodgy full back line, but they also very naive and leave a lot of space there,Cavan have some decent forwards,so I expect them to take advantage.

Cavan need to win this one. I don't think we can have any excuses about pitch as it is the same for both sides. The worrying thing is that the league hasn't added any players to the panel and we are now a lesser force than this time last year. I'm not sure what effect the trip to New York will have on our preparations for the championship but in my heart of hearts I don't see a long summer of football beckoning for Cavan.

A trip to NY at this time of year cannot be good for preparations for a C/ship. It's madness imo.

A period of time in the run up to Championship where the team gets to be together for a period of days uninterrupted by work, welcomed to New York for a once off experience which will no doubt be a fantastic uplifting week or so and a brilliant bonding exercise. Allow the management to drill the players with the gameplan for Championship opener in a much more comprehensive manner than the limited few hours they would otherwise collectively train in coming up to championship. Donegal and Kerry both had training camps before the All Ireland Final last year.

Sounds like madness all right Slasher.. Wouldn't be like you to see things in a negative light though. Perhaps the county board should cancel the trip and the team should go back to the ultra professional type championship preparation routine of work/college for a full day and attend training in the evening. After all what would Kerry or Donegal know about big game preparation..

There are two types of training camps - pre-final and pre-championship. Most players aren't lucky enough to get to play in an All-Ireland final but just about every player from a serious county has been away for an early-season camp at one stage or another.... Even so, there was great merit to it. We got a month's training done in the space of a week. We built up a bond through living in each other's pockets. We laid a foundation for the year to come and we were able to refer back to it as we went on. Over the years, we refined it and tweaked it and cut out the things that didn't work.

An excerpt Dara O'Se in the Irish times talking about pre-Championship training camp.. What would he know about it though I suppose. Madness as Slasher says!!

Ha ha Kerry did it "over the years" and Cavan are going to do it in the first year. If the bonding isn't done now then it's too late.
Good man Johnsmith you're a gas man.

C'mon now Slasher you've had your point challenged. Argue the post not the poster. Back up your point.

Why is it madness?

Is Dara O'Se wrong and training camps aren't what serious teams do before Championship? Completely irrelevant whether Cavan have done it for the first year or the 10th year, Kerry did it for the first year at some stage.

Is Dara O'Se wrong when he says that it bonds the team together? Kerry were around a long time and obviously saw the merit in team bonding even after years of long championships together.

Do you know more about team bonding than Dara O'Se/Kerry Manager(s)/Jim McGuinness who obviously didn't think "if the bonding isn't done by now it's too late"

Is a week or so of collective training/bonding/focus on the upcoming championship a bad thing??

Is Dara O'Se mad???

Jonsmith. The fact is if Terry Hyland said going to New York was a stupid idea you can bet your life slasher would be here telling you how backwards Cavan were in comparison to other successful teams. Every word he writes drips with negativity.

If a team isn't bonded after 5 years then i don't know if they ever will bond.
These players have been at it for that long or even longer at U.21 or Senior.
Everyone knows that they are not going to NY to bond BUT are going to create money for the GAA.

Cavan97,

No. I have none left.
Sold the last of them to Fredflint and Johnsmith.
Made a tasty wee profit too.

I think we will win easily enough tonight. We were always a step above Westmeath. We won't feat them. You couldn't go through the league losing your 3 home games. Won't happen. Cavan by 6.
