Pity there is no coverage of the 2008 qualifier, where McCabe himself was playing. Cavan put in a great second half but conceded a last minute goal

Poor stuff yesterday but a win is a win. You certainly can never fault these players' efforts and work rate, It's a pity supporters don't get behind the team as they are a likeable group.
It was a crazy decision to start the game without a midfielder, unless all three are carrying injuries. McKiernan changed the game when he came on and in Lynch we have a top class forward. Oisin Brady and Corrigan were also very good.
Tyrone have done us no favours dropping points to both Louth and Kildare. Louth will be a tough game on Saturday

We've points on the board! Better late than never!
A gritty, battling win in tough conditions. We'll take it. Fair play to the lads for showing some character and guts in a dogfight. Kildare are a bit of a soft team mentally, often seem to lack fight-so once we overhauled their lead in the second half and went ahead, we had a great shot at seeing it out.
Tyrone did us no favours losing to Louth. The turfmen will have their tails up now. We have to raise our game and keep building on this win, have to get the result here if we're to have a hope of staying up.

In today's game Cavan really looked like they'd be better off in Division 3, and the tall thin cup. Physically smaller, weaker and slower than Louth all over the pitch. Haven't enough big men to win ball. Lost 10 of their own 17 kickouts in the first half. Cavan currently have a handful of good footballers in the 5.9 or 5.10 height, , but McKiernan at his age still being our only big man ball winner is a real problem. Lynch seems a real talent and well on his way to being back to his best. Cork, Meath, Kildare and Louth have all been much bigger teams than Cavan, Tyrone were more a similar size, but they did have two giants of lads at midfield. A lack of height is not a new problem for Cavan, for some reason we just don't seem to produce a batch of big footballers at the same time.

Replying To wishfulthinkin: "Did he start though??" Peader McKiernan certainly started an Ulster Championship in 1987, V Monaghan in the quarter final, and in at least the drawn semi final game v Derry

The first half was one of the poorest ever from Cavan. Played a bit in the second half when it was done. Louth had eased up. Kildare were brushed aside so Cavan can still stay up but not a division 2 team. They might not even beat offaly.

By then Cavan will be P7 W2 D0 L5 PD -28 and will still be in Div 2 (just about) with a few key players coming back Monaghan will be P7 W0 D0 L7 PD -75 and will be relegated after one of the weakest campaigns by any team ever in Div1 with a seemingly endless tale of woe on injuries
Who do you think will be in a better headspace for an Ulster 1st round match?

To be fair Eddie has always written sense - must be the years in exile.
Are ye this obsessive about any other county? Poor old Tom/vetern seems desperate for a bit of attention and the Cavan lads are now ignoring his/her nonsense. Must be killing them.

A difficult game to analyse when you lose so many kickouts. By my count we lost all of the first 14 kickouts, but regained possession on a couple of them. When we had both Gearóid and Ciarán Brady on the pitch, we won 10 of the next 11 kickouts.
Louth won 15 of Cavans kickouts and got 0-9 from them. In comparison, Cavan won 12 of Louth's kickouts but only got from 0-1 from them

It's hard to know what to make of this Cavan team at the moment. Any bad luck we had at the start of the league most certainly turned yesterday. Fair play to Ryan Donohoe. I thought Tiernan Madden also had a good game. Eoin Clarke made a big contribution. Is that 6/6 games that we have lost the midfield battle?
You would have to wonder about management - this game probably told us more than the others. I would question why one coach is bellowing in instructions from the stand side yesterday while McCabe himself was bellowing in instructions from the terrace side. Galligan was at the same too. To me it signals to the opposition that Cavan are unprepared and gives them a psychological edge.
In saying that, it's only March and league football. The negativity after the Louth game reminded me of 2020 when a Roscommon b team came to Breffni and beat us (also live on TG4). Cavan went on to have a good championship. You would have to feel there is a kick in this team for the championship.
I watched Louth and Derry in Ardee on Saturday. Derry are no great shakes - they are very reliant on McGuigan for scores. We need a win as Louth have nothing to play for in Kildare
