Cavan Minor And U20s 2022

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Don't see a thread here for the underage teams. Best of luck to the U20s this evening as they take on Monaghan in Inniskeen. Tough game for first one out in the quarters, with this Monaghan team winning Ulster as minors in 2019. Lost to Monaghan by 2 points in the league I think, but were well out of it before coming back close near the end. Hopefully we'll bring a performance this evening, especially against a Monaghan team, and see where we're really sitting at this grade. Go well lads.

Hopefully we will see a marked improvement on last year's underage performances…!

Absolutely, was horrific last while. At least U20 performances have been OK this year (bar Westmeath) despite scorelines, and minors are going well enough.
Hoping we'll get some championship results and get a run going

Well done the U20s! Always great when we beat Monaghan. Seemed we were very strong the first half. Stung them with an opening goal and kept in front the whole way. They were struggling to keep up and catch us after that. They had a black and red card near the end so they must have been falling apart at that stage. We'll done fellas! Great to see a good championship win with our underage teams, especially so convincing against a strong Monaghan team

Was down at the game last night. Excellent performance from the lads. Team was very well set up defensively, Monaghan couldn't break is down. We dominated midfield and the forwards were well set up to make the Monaghan kickout difficult to retain. Management got it tactically right as well as great performance from the lads. We were unlucky not to have 2-3 more goals. I left very impressed considering how highly this Monaghan team were rated.

Monaghan fans very angry with Banty and Co. on the Monaghan thread over this one

Aye, I see that. I think they also thought that they'd be strong and would give Ulster a rattle. As we would too if this was a team that had won at minor level.

Anyway, out again Friday vs Derry at 8pm in the Athletic Grounds. Hope the lads keep momentum going now.

Yes this is a big game for the U20s…. Derry are always strong at underage level and our record against them is not great…. Hopefully we can make the Final where anything can happen

Well done to St Pats Cavan who won the Oisin McGrath Cup (formerly the Brock Cup) against St Colmans Newry today. Pats are the only Cavan school playing top level Ulster schools competitions (should be more than just them) and a strong Pats programme has always added to Cavan underage and Senior teams after. So great news all round to win an Ulster schools competition. Hope this panel keeps going and wins further competitions as they go through their school life.

Best of luck to the U20s tonight, here's hoping they come away with the result. Derry squeezed past Antrim last week, and Antrim haven't been doing much at this level for a while so hard to know what to make of that. This Derry team beat this Cavan team in the 2019 Minor qualifiers, but think we can look past that campaign as a guide seeing how we saw off Monaghan last week. Anyways, it's there for either team, so hope the boys get the result. For those not going, the match will be streamed by TG4 on YouTube on the link here

By all accounts they've their Senior Squad players back, so even with missing a few others, they'll be strong tonight

Brilliant stuff from the lads, well done to all. Solid performance, although we missed a few good chances which I thought would come back to haunt us, but the lads finished strongly. Great to be in a final at this grade after a few disappointing years. Some decent young players there.

Super win by the U20s. It was tight going at times, and Derry went 2 ahead in the 2nd half, but dug deep, and got the scores when it mattered to see it through. Some cracking players on the team. Derry did their best to kick it away though, and lots to work on. But we've a final to look forward to. Great stuff lads!
