Dromintee in third successive final

October 20, 2003
Dromintee are back in their third consecutive final when they easily overcame a disappointing Pearse Og side on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-9. This was basically a great team effort from the Dromintee side with the contribution of the O'Rourke brothers very significant on this occasion. Cathal and Michael contributed 0-9 of the winners tally while Aiden was outstanding in defence, and Martin while he didn't get on the scoreboard was always a constant threat to the Pearse Og defence. In a fairly lively opening half, Dromintee were ahead at the interval by 0-8 to 0-5. The contest was effectively over within minutes of the restart, Oliver Gaughran finding the net from close range after county star, Andy Mallon failed to hold what initially appeared to be a fantastic catch under pressure. Pearse Og staged a mini comeback when sub, Gerard Houlihan playing in his 21st championship year, fisted a centre from Conor Clarke to the Dromintee net. This score seemed to galvanise the Dromintee side to greater efforts and they finished the stronger side, winning comfortably by a six points margin. With county champions falling all over the province this season, could this be Dromintee's year? They are playing well, have the experience of playing in county finals, and with a high fitness level are more than equipped to cause an upset. It all adds up to an interesting decider in the Orchard county next week-end. Dromintee - P. McEvoy; M. McGaughan, E. Martin, C. McCoy; B. McArdle 0-3, Aiden O'Rourke, B. Shannon; D. Kilgallon, S.
