Wexford have decided to field a Development Squad team in this year's Walsh Cup.

The Model County open their competitive 2012 season against NUIG at Bellefield on Saturday afternoon and manager Liam Dunne is stepping aside to allow U21 selector Paul Dempsey to oversee an experimental side in the subsidiary competition.

Dempsey has been guiding the Development Squad since last month and the players will now be given a chance to stake their claims for places in the forthcoming national hurling league.

Jim Berry and Colm Farrell are the only two players from last year's squad likely to feature during the Walsh Cup. Tweet
