Wexford GAA followers were saddened to learn of the tragic death of talented hurler Peter Buckley in Peru last weekend.

The 25-year-old charity worker was killed when the three-wheeled moto-taxi he was in plunged 150 feet into a river. Efforts are now underway to repatriate his body.

Peter was a prominent member of the Courtnacuddy club and captained them to a county minor hurling title in 2004. He also represented Wexford in underage hurling.

Wexford GAA issued their condolences to the Buckley family in the following statement: "The sad news has reached us of the death of 25-year-old Peter Buckley. Peter, who hailed from Courtnacuddy, had represented his club in the past. Peter died tragically in a crash in Peru while travelling in South America."
