Wexford's Matty Forde
Wexford officials were left red-faced after it emerged that Matty Forde was refused entry into Wexford Park last Saturday for a club game.
Forde's club Kilanerin were playing local rivals Castletown in a senior league match - a game the former All-Star forward would have been playing in himself but for the fact that he was resting up for Wexford's All-Ireland qualifier meeting with Cork the following day.
On approaching the gate to join up with his club colleagues who had arrived earlier, Forde was refused entry. Eventually, county secretary Margaret Doyle intervened and Forde was allowed into the ground.
Kilanerin officials were understandably furious at the position their most famous son was left in.
One club official told the Irish Daily Star: "You would think in this day and age with all the publicity that the stewards would have known Matty Forde. Surely they should have people on this gate that knows players."
