NFL 3: Goals make the difference for Wexford

March 07, 2010
Wexford 3-7
Sligo 1-6

Wexford recorded their second consecutive win in Division Three yesterday at Wexford Park, where goals made the difference for Jason Ryan's team.

Sligo's only led in this game came after two minutes when Martin Breheny looked to settle their nerves with an early free, but the hosts responded in an emphatic fashion via Ciaran Lyng dispatching a penalty to the Sligo net after goalkeeper Philip Greene foot-blocked.

Both sides swapped points after that, but it was Lyng's spot-kick which proved the standing difference between the teams at half-time as the Model men went in with a 1-4 to 0-6 lead.

Wexford added two more points early on in the second-half before Lyng set-up Ben Brosnan for the Sligo net to send them six clear.

The Yeats men were well and truly sunk when midfielder Daithi Waters fisted in Wexford's third goal on the hour mark, before Alan Costello struck a major late on which would only prove a consolation for Sligo.
