Walsh Cup: Dublin through to decider

February 07, 2010
Shane Ryan's early goal sent 13-man Dublin on their way to victory over Wexford in yesterday's Walsh Cup semi-final at Gorey.

Dublin 2-17
Wexford 2-13

Ryan's fifth minute strike was the difference between the sides for most of the first half with Dublin taking a 1-9 to 0-8 lead into the break. The accuracy of Diarmuid 'Gizzie' Lyng from placed balls was vital in keeping Wexford in touch.

Anthony Daly's side suffered a double blow after the restart when wing forward John Kelly and midfielder Johnny McCaffrey were both sent off on second yellow cards. The sendings off meant that Dublin played the last 21 minutes with just 13 players.

Wexford looked like taking advantage when Lyng netted from a free in the 46th minute, but the visitors were far sharper and they reasserted their authority when Kevin O'Loughlin's goal made it 2-12 to 1-9. They will now face Galway in the final next weekend.
