Martin's chairman denies involvement in transfer
January 22, 2010
St Martin's chairman James Quirke has denied that his club had anything to do with Mark Maloney's attempts to join them.
It has been widely speculated that the Kilmore minor is set for a switch to the club's Wexford District rivals and in last week's Wexford People the newspaper reported his club's opposition to attempts of a transfer, prompting an e-mailed response from Quirke.
"No St Martin's GAA club officer, committee member, player or any representative of the club actively encouraged Mark Maloney to seek a transfer from Kilmore," Quirke claimed.
"Our underage structure has proven beyond doubt that we have the ability to produce both in standard and quantity a more than adequate supply of players to keep us competing at the highest level. Mark's choice of residence is a matter of his own choosing."
Maloney's transfer is not set to be formally discussed until after the deadline passes on January 31, when there is sure to be considerable interest in the outcome.
