Leinster Colleges SFC 'A': St. Peter's march on

January 22, 2010
A five-star performance by midfielder James Gordon inspired St. Peter's College, Wexford to a 0-8 to 1-3 victory over 14-man Knockbeg College in yesterday's Leinster Colleges SFC 'A' second round clash. Gordon made light of the difficult conditions at Wexford's Power Park to help the local side to a quarter-final berth. St. Peter's laid the foundations for their victory in the first half when, with the assistance of the wind, they built up a 0-6 to 0-1 interval lead. They led by 0-3 to 0-0 after eight minutes thanks to points from Gordon, Mark O'Connor and Tomas Power and their prospects were further boosted in the 20th minute when Knockbeg had full back Mark O'Halloran sent off on a straight red card. The Carlow side were thrown a lifeline three minutes after the restart when Emmett Malone scored the only goal, but they only managed two further points from Stephen Attride and Paul Kingston as St. Peter's held on for the win.
