Millmore Gaels 9-21 Castledaly 0-4

15/5/2012 - ACFL Div 1 Castledaly 1-14 Mullingar Shamrocks 0-09
Castledaly welcomed an under strength Mullingar Shamrock team and exploited this advantage to provide an evening of entertaining football with examples of quality in their strong defensive work, energetic support play, high speed exchanges of passes, zippy forward running and clinical finishing from play.

Castledaly started strong and Liam Fitzpatrick showed strong support for his forwards as he surged forward from wing back to open the scoring for the home team. Mullingar replied with two scores of their own before Paul Kelly began another strong performance with two points from play. MJ Kelly followed his cousins example and tagged on his first point of the match as Castledaly started to gain confidence and exploit space in the Mullingar defence. Mullingar scored their third point from play before Brendan Kelly displayed some fancy footwork to draw a foul and then pointed the resulting free.

Castledaly defense were working hard to hold Mullingar and the always reliable Ciaran Henson, Adrian Kelly, Enda Kelly, Mick Gavin, John Warburton put in Trojan performances but the visitors were finding some space and won two consecutive frees which they scored to draw level at 5 points each. From the kick out Castledaly won possession and worked the ball forward to Gordon Duffy who held off a challenge from his opposite number before playing the long ball pass to Brendan Kelly who was brought down on the edge of the penalty box, and MJ McLoughlin showed his usual accuracy by slotting the ball past the Mullingar custodian. Brendan Kelly continued to trouble the Mullingar defense and tipped another short range effort across the bar just before half time, leaving Castledaly leading by 1-06 to 05.

The second half began with Mullingar raising their game and a troubling attack saw them drive a thunderous shot at the Castledaly
goal which Justin Coughlan did well to tip over the bar for a point. Liam Fitzpatrick continued his first half quality performance and after exchanging passes with his forward comrades Liam finishing sweetly over the bar for his second score of the game. Paul Kelly strong surging runs were gaining dividends as he draw another foul, which was smartly dispatched over the bar by his cousin Brendan.

Brendan next added a point from play himself after gathering the break from the oppositions kick out. Midfielder Gordon Duffy was moved to centre forward position at half time and he showed his finishing skills with a neatly taken point. Tom Farrell and Alan Fitzgerald were introduced as subs for Enda and MJ Kelly either side of Mullingar scoring their 7th point from a hard earned free. Niall Duffy supported the next Castledaly attack from midfield and was rewarded for his efforts with his first point of the day after some excellent work from Pat Holloway, MJ McLoughlin, Darragh Kelly. Castledaly continued to test the Mullingar defense and won another free which Brendan Kelly finished across the bar to complete his scoring efforts in this entertaining clash. But Mullingar were not finished and they won possession at midfield before turning and finishing strongly with their eight point of this encounter.

Eoin Fleming and Cian Young were introduced as subs for the excellent Darragh and Paul Kelly and Eoin was quick to get on the score board and this final score left the result at 1-14 to 0-8.
