Kelly takes over blues

January 25, 2012
Former Meath hurler Paddy Kelly is the new Brownstown hurling manager.

The Kiltale clubman lined out with the Royal County during the eighties and nineties. He was part of the Meath side which was ironically managed by former Brownstown hurler John Davis during the mid-nineties.

Kelly guided his native club to the 2007 Meath senior hurling championship, while he was manager of Louth hurlers last year where he guided the county to the Nicky Rackard Cup final where they lost out to London.

In another link to Brownstown, Kelly actually replaced former blues hurler Pat Clancy as Louth manager before Clancy returned to the same job this year.

Kelly now has the task of guiding Brownstown back to senior hurling after a two-year absence. His task will be made all the more harder as the club have been hit by emigration as Kenny Higgins has gone to Australia, while Barry Davis is going to Canada later in the year.

However, there is still a wealth of talent to work with as county star Philip Gilsenan, along with Conor Slator, John Fitzpatrick, Martin Kelly, John McGuinness and Niall Leonard form the nucleus of a strong team.
