Wilson could return against Maryland

County star Fergal Wilson could make a surprise return to the Tubberclair team for tomorrow evening's do-or-die SFC clash with Maryland.

With Athlone and Killucan already assured of places in the knockout stages from the group, it's a straight shootout between south county rivals Tubberclair and Maryland to see who will join them, and the availability of Wilson - who missed Westmeath's championship campaign due to finger and knee injuries - would be a huge boost to the Glasson side's prospects.

"Fergal had a bad knee injury and although it didn't need surgery in the end, only repair work to the muscles around the knee, it's been a difficult few months for him," Tubberclair manager Tom Lennon said.

"But he's been doing some light jogging recently and I suppose there's a very slim possibility of him getting involved on Saturday. It's unlikely, though, because it would be very unfair to pitch him straight into such a pressurised game, and to pin your hopes on somebody who has missed lots of football recently.

"Maybe Fergal is better off waiting for the knockout stages - if we make it through."

The Tubberclair-Maryland tie is just one of a number of crucial final round group games which will take place in the SFC and IFC over the weekend, with knockout and relegation issues set to be decided.
