Two places left to be filled in SFC quarter-finals
August 05, 2010
With Garrycastle, Mullingar Shamrocks, Athlone and Killucan already assured of their places in the knockout stages of the Westmeath SFC, there are just two places left to be filled.
In Division 1, south county rivals Tubberclair and Maryland will face off in their final group match on Saturday week, August 14 for the last remaining quarter-final place. A draw would be good enough for Tubberclair, who drew with Coralstown/Kinnegad last weekend, while Maryland need to win after suffering their second straight defeat to Killucan.
At the other end of the division, last year's finalists St. Loman's face a do-or-die clash with Coralstown/Kinnegad to determine who faces a relegation playoff. A draw would be good enough for Coralstown/Kinnegad following their surprise win over Athlone last weekend, while St. Loman's need to win.
In Division 2, Castledaly, The Downs and Tyrrellspass are in the mix to join Garrycastle and Mullingar Shamrocks in the knockout stages. Castledaly and Tyrrellspass will go head-to-head on Sunday week, August 15 at Cusack Park, while The Downs need to beat basement side St. Malachy's to keep alive their hopes of making it through.
In the event of Castledaly, The Downs and Tyrrellspass finishing level on points, which can only happen if Tyrrellspass beat Castledaly and The Downs draw with St. Malachy's, scoring difference will be used to determine who takes third place in the group.
