St Marys Notes

Intermediate Championship
St Marys took on Ballinagore in a crucial championship match in Castletown Geoghegan on Sunday last. Unfortunately for St Marys it proved not to be their day as they suffered an extremely disappointing 13 point defeat. From the off Ballinagore appeared to be much the sharper team and stormed into an early 6 point lead. St Marys never recovered from this start and trailed at half time by eight points.
Half time St Marys 0-04, Ballinagore 1-09.
An early John Mcnamara goal gave the merest glimmer of hope but Ballingore then upped their performance to a level that St Marys were way off on this occasion. They completely dominated the midfield area and scored at will. Late on both players were reduced to 14 players with Larry Poynton being sent off for striking an opponent. The final score was St Marys 1-06, Ballinagore 1-19.
St Marys must now concentrate on their final group game against C/F/C/W which they must win to have any chance of progression.

Minor league.
The minors hosted Maryland/Tang in the final game of the league on Wednesday 21st July last. M/T got off to a great start and had 1-2 on the board before St Marys got into gear .They then registered 2-3 of their own but M/T closed out the half with the last 4 points to leave the teams level at the break.
Half time score: St Marys 2-03, Maryland/Tang 1-06.
The second half was very even and could have gone either way. St Marys enjoyed a huge amount of possession, but were let down too often by poor deliveries to the forwards. M/T on the other hand proved more clinical in front of goals and a well taken goal midway through the half proved to be decisive. St Marys were left to rue several missed chances and will have to up their game for the looming Championship.
Final score; St Marys 2-07, Maryland/Tang 2-10.
Team; Lenny Gavin, Dean Darcy, Cathal Coyle, Brian O'Sullivan ,Conor Duigenan, Joe Guiden, Dan Plant, Ray O'Sullivan, Declan Lennon(0-1), Eddie Alford(0-2), Dermot Judge(1-1), Gordon O'Sullivan, Paul Metcalfe, Kienan Gill(0-2), Ian Hyland(1-1), Niall Cully, Aaron Byrne, Padraig Dolan, Liam McCarthy.
U12 League Phase 2
Following a good start to the second phase of the league with a win over St Lomans, St Marys travelled to The Downs on Wednesday 28th July to take on the home team. St Marys were short several regulars and a reshuffled team took to the pitch. Any nerves were soon forgotten about as St Marys went about their business in clinical fashion. Wave after wave of attacks rained upon the home teams goals and before long it was obvious that St Marys were in no mood to lose this game. A substantial lead at half time allowed St Marys to make several personnel and positional changes and a re-jigged team played for the second half. Understandably, St Marys didn't reach the same heights as in the first half and as a result the second half was very even. However this was another great performance from these lads and they continue to have a fantastic year.
Team; Cormac Dunne, Ryan Egan, Matthew Bradley, Aidan Robinson, Sean Downey, Jamie Rooney, Cathal Jessop, Francis Duffy, Sean Lyster, Pauli Carpenter, Eoin Fallon, Sam Stapleton, Enda Cully, Matthew Rowden, Gerry Byrne, David Cole, Daragh Brunton, Daibhin Colgan.
