Plunkett's shock champions
July 30, 2010
Holders Clonkill suffered a shock 2-11 to 3-10 defeat to St. Oliver Plunkett's in the senior hurling championship last weekend.
However, the Loughegar outfit can still get back into the race for a place in the semi-finals if they beat Lough Lene Gaels on Sunday week in what will be a repeat of last year's county final. The Gaels lost to Castletown-Geoghegan by 3-11 to 4-17 last weekend, so it is a must-win game for them also.
As things stand, Raharney are the only team sure of a place in the semi-finals after they made it three wins from three in the losers' group. Their 2-21 to 0-10 drubbing of St. Brigid's condemned the Dalystown club to an instant return to the intermediate grade where they will be joined next year by once-mighty Brownstown, whose 1-10 to 1-14 defeat to Ringtown consigned them to the drop.
