New appointment for Dolan

Westmeath's Dessie Dolan
Former Leitrim boss Dessie Dolan Snr has been appointed manager of former Roscommon football kingpins Clann na nGael for the coming season. Dolan had hoped to be taking charge of his native Westmeath this year, but was controversially overlooked for the job in favour of Brendan Hackett. The snub has led to his son, also Dessie, so far refusing to make himself available to the new Lake County boss. Dolan, who is a former Westmeath and Leinster player and managed Offaly club side Shamrocks last season, takes over the Clann na nGael reins from 1991 All-Star defender Enon Gavin, who will take charge of 2008 Westmeath champions Castledaly this year. Gavin led Clann to Roscommon SFC semi-final and quarter-final appearances in recent years and the once-mighty Johnstown outfit will be hoping Dolan's arrival can give them the extra push in their quest for a first county title since 1996.
