Westmeath G A A Notes By Pat Reilly Westmeath P R O. DISSAPOINTMENT FOR WESTMEATH FOOTBALLERS AS DUBLIN GOES ON SCORING RAMPAGE: LEINSTER FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP: Dissappointing, Discraceful, was the words used by Westmeath supporters as they left Croke Park last Sunday after our senior footballers suffered a second twenty seven point defeat by the Dubs. In just three months, for me, I feel for the lads and all involved as no team prepares hard for any match to go out and perform so poorly. From the start it was clear that Dublin were going to put down a marker as they were first to every ball and looked sharper, a trend which continued right through out the whole match, and they appear to have found their shooting form. Several poor shots at the Dublin Goal and a number of surprising errors in the Westmeath defence let Dublin in for some easy scores and an early lead and when Westmeath messed up a short kick out late in the first half and Dublin pounced for their first goal the writing was on the wall. Things went from bad to worse during the second half as Dublin scored with ease and the Westmeath lads try as they might could make no progress at all. They looked dead on their feet and at times lost and without direction, the only shining light in all of this was the performance of our two young corner forwards who tried hard and notched up seven points between them. Westmeath now have to regroup for the Qualifiers which will be no easy task as the spirits are at an all time low but we've been there before and bounced back. GREVILLE ARMS SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP: The first two rounds of this year's championship took place last Saturday eve in Cusack Park with Lough Lene Gaels eventually overcoming Brownstown and St. Oliver Plunketts getting the better of Castletown Goeghegan. One of the Gaels players received a nasty eye injury during the early stages of the first match and we wish him a speedy recovery. MINOR BOARD NOTICES: Cups & Shields. Clubs that are in possession of any trophies from competitions played in 2008 & 2009 are again requested to return same immediately to the offices in Cusack Park, also please ensure that they are properly engraved where necessary.
