Glennon: Dubs don't rate us

Westmeath's Denis Glennon
Denis Glennon believes Dublin could take Westmeath for granted in Sunday's Leinster SFC semi-final at Croke Park. Dublin manager Pat Gilroy, team captain Paul Griffin and forward Bernard Brogan have all publicly stated they view the Lake County as a serious threat to their provincial ambitions, but Glennon has controversially claimed that the Metropolitans "just don't rate us at all". Dublin hammered an already-relegated Westmeath by 27 points in the final round of this year's NFL, and the Tyrrellspass sharpshooter detects there a degree of complacency in the Dubs camp as a result of this. "Dublin have a bigger goal in mind, the Sam Maguire, and we're a banana skin in front of them basically," he said. "At the end of the day, no one is giving us a chance against these boys. They think that we're a two-man duo up front and two or three good defenders and that's the end of it - that they'll be able to steamroll us after a few minutes. "That's the way we're looking at it. We've absolutely nothing to lose. And we know our own ability, we know what we can do." Despite their failure to win a game in the NFL and their less-than-convincing performance against Wicklow in the first round of the Leinster SFC, the Tullamore-based garda isn't discounting Westmeath's chances. "We're the only team to beat Dublin in the last four or five years in Leinster. We're getting more experienced players back, and when you look at it on those grounds - why not? Why can't we beat them?" he asked. "We've a good success rate against them, compared to other teams. We have our championship game behind us now as well, and we can only get better from that last game. So I think we can put up a game against them anyway."
