Louth hurling manager Pat Clancy
Pat Clancy has stepped down as manager of the Louth senior hurling team.
The former Westmeath hurler made the decision following the Wee County's Rackard Cup quarter-final defeat to Fingal last weekend. He was highly critical of the format of the third-tier championship this year, which saw weaker counties serve as mere cannon fodder to the likes of Meath and London.
Two-thousand-and-nine was Clancy's third season at the Reds' helm. Last year he led them to the Nicky Rackard decider, while Louth also won both the Division Three league title and Leinster Junior Shield. They successfully retained the latter earlier this year.
Clancy is credited with transforming Louth hurling and his services will be in big demand now that he's a free agent.
