The Waterford county board are currently considering whether or not to field teams in next year's Munster intermediate hurling and junior football championships.

The county board have expressed concerns over the difficulty of appointing selectors for the county intermediate hurlers.

And County board chairman Paddy Joe Ryan is adamant that both teams are a financial drain that could be avoided reports the Waterford News & Star.

"I'm saying that the money we spend on intermediate hurling and junior football is a waste of money. The sooner we decide to pull out the better," Ryan told delegates at a county board meeting.

Secretary Timmy O'Keeffe was of the same opinion. "How does intermediate hurling improve in the county? How does junior football improve football in the county? You are basically taking second rate players, giving them jerseys and sending them out to play Cork. There is no logic in the world in that."
