"A lot of ye guys would be disappointed with how unsophisticated our game-plan can be at times. Look, there's not a back man in the country that likes to be run at and turned and I think our forwards really pressed the Waterford backs. And it worked."

Michael Ryan sent his players out to pile the pressure on the Deise defence.

"I'm not sure you know, a young group, hard to lift them. The demoralising nature of the defeat, it's very hard to quantify how they'll respond."

Can Waterford bounce back against Wexford? Derek McGrath says we'll have to wait and see.

"You have to be well able to get stuck in, take physical challenges and give physical challenges. It's a game of hurling at the end of the day, you're not going to get anything soft."

Tipp's three goal hero John McGrath relishes the physical battle.

"Just let this be very straight - we don't agree with that. Galway have been in two All-Ireland finals in four years; won a Leinster and showed the calibre of the team they have. If it's them we know we're in for a battle and we respect them."

Davy Fitzgerald went out of his way to distance Clare from Ger Loughnane's stinging criticism of their quarter-final opponents Galway.

"It takes huge time and massive effort, trying to do everything to the best of your ability for the county. I have given everything as a player and manager to Limerick hurling. It wasn't to be, it wasn't good enough."

Limerick's TJ Ryan just stopped short of confirming he is stepping down.
