The GPA and GAA are on a collision course over the proposed introduction of a 'B' competition for Division 4 counties.

The Irish Independent is reporting that the GPA has contacted inter-county footballers asking them to discuss "as a matter of urgency" the GAA's rejection of their championship reform proposal.

The Players body have informed their members that their plan has been "formally rejected for reasons we are not satisfied with".

"We understand that there is serious concern among members about the developments," the GPA states in a communication with its members.

Players are now being canvassed for their views under the following four headings: 'Yes' or 'No' in favour of the GAA proposal going before Congress; what action should be taken in response to the current situation; what level of disillusionment prevails among players over current structures; what appetite is there for structural change?

It's likely that the Central Council backed motion, which would see the introduction of a secondary competition for the eight bottom teams, will be opposed by the majority of players.
