Boston GAA update

August 10, 2015

By Rory O'Donnell
There was a lot decided last weekend at the Irish Cultural Center as the GAA championships roll on to the knockout stages.  A great crowd was on hand to see the Connacht Ladies footballers book a place in the senior football final with a close run encounter against Tir na nOg.  A fast start saw the Connacht Ladies build a 3-3 to 1-1 lead, however Tir na nOg paired it back to a goal as each side dug deep in the final stages.  The westerners hung on to win by a score of 3-8 to 2-8.
On the men's side of things wins for Shannon Blues and Aidan McAnespies saw them get the bye into the semi-finals as the teams finished first and second respectively.  In a senior competition that is as tight as any in living memory, Galway pulled off a two point win over Connemara Gaels and forced a playoff scenario.  The teams had to be drawn to see who would make the quarter finals and who would have the playoff game.  Christopher's and Donegal got the luck, while Galway and Wolfe Tones will play mid-week to see who will face the Gaels next Sunday.
Also, Fr. Tom Burke's senior hurlers had a comprehensive 0-21 to 0-14 victory over Wexford and have sealed their spot in the semi-final.  It remains to be seen whether they will face Galway or Wexford two weeks from now.  The last round of the senior hurling championship is next Sunday when Wexford face Tipperary and Tom's meet Galway!
