Galway's Jack McDowell gets away from his marker.

Boston GAA By Rory O'Donnell

The July 4 Holiday weekend saw 3 senior football games contested as the championship reached the half way point.  Aidan McAnespies' 100% record remained unblemished following the challenge from Christopher's.  Two second half goals proved to be the difference, Collie Donnelly and Chris Healy provided the finishes in each case and the Macs remain on top of the senior football table with a 3-13 to 1-13 victory.

Connemara Gaels tallied their first win with a strong finish against a battling Kerry side.  Kerry had the upper hand for most of the game, and with the Gaels trailing by a goal in the second half, Sean Conneely blasted a shot off the underside of the crossbar to level matters.  The Gaels raised then raised their game and some excellent finishing from Tony Brosnan down the stretch saw them get off the foot of the table with 2 points with a 1-19 to 1-14 win.  A highly anticipated encounter between Shannon Blues and Donegal degenerated into a scrappy, testy affair with 3 men getting sent off, 2 for the Blues and one for Donegal.  The Blues banged in 3 goal to fell their opponents despite being a man down, the third a superb solo effort from Chris Horan and sit in second place on the table.

Fr. Tom Burke's joined Tipperary at the top of the table with a well-earned win over arch rivals, Galway.  Galway led by a point coming into the final quarter, but Tom's finished the stronger of the teams and a Dylan Costello goal was followed by four unanswered points to claim to 2-21 to 1-18 victory.  Earlier in the day the junior hurlers of Worcester made their first foray into the higher levels of competition and fell to Tipperary by a score of 2-7 to 1-15.

The action continues next weekend with the Ladies of Connacht and Tir na nOg meeting, while Tipperary senior hurlers try to reclaim the top spot when they meet Wexford.  Donegal and Kerry will be looking to rebound from their defeats when they meet, while Galway will be looking to build on their mid-week tie against Wolfe Tones when meet the high flying Aidan McAnespies in the senior football championship.
