Kerry Vs. Gaels

July 06, 2015

No celebrations for Kerry in Boston this 4th of July weekend as they lose to the Connemara Gaels 1-19 to 1-14.  In the 4th round of the senior championship there was a minute silence before the game for four great Kerry GAA people who passed away recently in Boston namely, Tina Maunsell, Brendan Quirke, John Joe Somers and Pat Mulvihill.  RIP.  The game was played in perfect weather conditions in the mid 80's .  Kerry got off to a great start with points by Shane O'Callahan, Robbie Croft and Ronan Kennedy after six minutes of play.  Kieran Murpfy and Martin Farragher responded for the Gaels.  Robbie Croft put Kerry two up with a free but the Gaels hit back with points by Tony Brosnan and Martin Farragher to level the game at four all.  Shane O'Callahan and Martin Farragher traded points and after seventeen minutes the sides where level again but not for long as Ronan Kennedy set up Shane O'Callahan for the only goal of the half and a three point lead for Kerry.  Martin Farragher hit back for the Gaels and once again Phil O'Sullivan responded for Kerry with an excellent point.  Damien Doolan broke through the Kerry defense and raised a white flag.  Martin Farragher would add his fourth point of the game just before the 1/2 time whistle to leave the score Kerry 1-6 and Gaels 0-8.  A pretty even first half of excellent football.

Phil O'Sullivan got Kerry on the board a minute into the second half but man of the match Martin Farragher cancelled that out.  Ronan Kennedy put Kerry three up after six minutes but that lead vanished when Sean Conneely crashed a ball into the Kerry net.  Martin Farragher added 2 more points to his tally then Robbie Croft, Ronan Kennedy and Shane O'Callahan added three rapid points with very little between the sides.  Kerry blew some scoring chances going for goals when points where the better option but the former Galway goalie pulled off some point blank saves.  At the other end the Gaels where picking off scores and started to pull away from Kerry.  Kerry then introduced three subs - John Ferguson for Shane O'Callahan, Alan Kerins for Phil O'Sullivan, and John O'Keefe for Ronan Kennedy.  Kerry continued to shoot for goals but Eoin Conneely saved well knocking the ball out for a 45 which Robbie Croft put over the bar.  Noel graham, Sean Conneely and Martin Farragher sealed this for the Gaels as Kerry faded in the last few minutes and the final score 1-19 to Kerry 1-14.  Kerry now with their backs to the wall will face Donegal next weekend.
