New York GAA Chairman Laurence McGrath

Donegal native Laurence McGrath becomes the first man from his county to be President of the New York GAA.

In the 100 year history of the association in the Big Apple, never has a Donegal man held the highest position, but not only is McGrath the first Donegal man, but he is also at 45, on of the youngest ever New York GAA Presidents.

A former player with the Pettigo club, McGrath has spent many years in New York where he runs a successful construction company.

And he admitted to the Donegal when he was home for Christmas and the New Year that it was a great honour to be made president.

"It is a great honour for me and my family and for the Donegal GAA Club in New York and I am looking forward to the job and the challenges it presents," said McGrath to the Donegal Democrat.

McGrath was elected to the position unopposed and begins his three-year term immediately.
