Boston GAA Honors the Barley House Wolves
The Boston Northeast Board honored the Barley House Wolves hurling club on Sunday with a ceremony that paid tribute to both the service of club members to the country, and the contribution of the club to the growth of the sport of hurling in the region. With fine weather for the Memorial Day Weekend and the main field looking in tip top condition, Irish Consul General, Breandán O'Caollaí and his wife Carmel, and Colm Lydon of the Boston Police Department were there to also honor the men from New Hampshire.

The club members were led around the field by a piper, and the national anthems of Ireland and the United States were sung by Mairead McNally. Boston Northeast Board Chairman, John Cunningham, paid tribute to the club in his speech, and thanked the town of Canton and the Irish Cultural Center for their support of the GAA in the area. John also mentioned the North American Finals that will be hosted on Labor Day weekend, and the All-Star game to be played in October, making this season a big one for the local GAA.

Colm Lydon of the Boston Police Dept. presented the Barley House Wolves with a Boston Police Gaelic Football shirt, and Warren Perry of the BHW reciprocated. Irish Consul General, Breandán O'Caollaí, thanked the BHW for their service to the United States and mentioned how it is a great honor for an Irish Sport to be adapted by the service members. Warren Perry spoke on behalf of the Barley House Wolves and reminded those in attendance that the focus of Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor those who have lost their lives or suffered injury while in the service of the country, and their families. Warren thanked the Boston Northeast GAA for welcoming the club into the fold and supporting their efforts to grow and to build the club. All in all it was a great occasion and a ceremony befitting the men of the New Hampshire National Guard who brought the Irish sport of hurling to the Granite State.

The weekend also marked the opening day of the senior football championship, with all 8 teams in action. There were wins for Kerry, Connemara Gaels, Donegal, and Wolfe Tones. Scores were as follows:

Kerry 1-13 Galway 0-12
Connemara Gaels 0-17 Shannon Blues 3-3
Donegal 1-17 Christopher's 3-5
Wolfe Tones 1-17 Aidan McAnespies 3-10
