The Gaelic Players' Association has signed up to a new Irish American award scheme.

The GPA hope to raise in the region of $2 million from the US-based initiative that will see the Ireland-US Gaelic Heritage Awards being held in New York on November 15th.

The aim of the drive is to promote the GAA in the American capital and in particular, the large Irish-American community out there.

"It's a scheme that is only in its infancy but we have been doing some work on this for the last six to nine months and we've received very positive feedback," GPA CEO Dessie Farrell told the Indo.

"Some very influential people have agreed to get on board with this and we're hoping to build a network of supporters across the US but it is very much a work in progress."
