Donegal's McGrath Wins NY GAA Post
December 12, 2011
Laurence McGrath, chairman of the Donegal NY GFC and a Pettigo native, has won the second spot in the N Y GAA chain of command in a narrow election over Waterford man Tommy Fahey for Vice Chairman.
McGrath, Donegal chair since 2006, and earlier serving from 2000-2002, has also served as Senior Division chair. Under his leadership the Donegal Club has claimed two Senior and three Junior NY championships, the last seeing them promoted into Intermediate for 2011 and a trip into the Semi-Final.
McGrath's five vote win was echoed in the campaign for NY Chairman, with Kildare man Liam Bermingham besting Limerick native Brendan O'Sullivan by the same margin and NY LGAA stalwart Mary Murphy taking the Secretary post by three over Joan Henchy.
The full 2012 NY GAA Executive Board will be Bermingham; McGrath; Murphy; Seamus McNabb, Assistant Secretary; John Phelan, Treasurer; Liam Moffat, Assistant Treasurer; Denis Twomey, Youth Officer; Alan Hearty, Coaching Officer; and Frank Brady, P.R.O.
