Cavan celebrate 2011 Season

November 04, 2011
The Cavan Football and Social Club are preparing for their annual dinner dance which will occur on Saturday the 3rd Of December. This year's honorees cover a wide spectrum with the clubs ladies winning the Senior Championship in New York while their Mens senior team took home the John Joe Cassidy seven a side title,, and also contested the Knockout final where they pushed Leitrim all the way. The junior football side reached the playoffs so it was an action packed year for the club. Guest of honor this year is Phil Reilly, the well known bar owner from Queens and long time player, mentor and sponsor of Cavan sides in New York. Phil is a staple in GAA circles with his involvement with Cavan sides and also as an umpire and linesmen on any give Sunday in Gaelic Park. A fitting tribute to a great Supporter of the Breffni Blue. Cavan returned to the top of the tree in Ladies football this year in New York and the play of Player of the year Paula Lally was a huge inspirational part. The Meath Native had a brilliant season lining out in a number of positions in the back line for Manager Dessie Reilly. Often pitted against the top forward of the opposition, she had a wonderful season. The Senior Mens team started out the season with a victory in the John Joe Cassidy sevens, and ended it contesting the Knockout final. Throughout the season one of the leading lights was the performances of Player of the Year Paul Lambe. The Monaghan native was also involved with The New York side that played in The Connaught Championship as if he wasn't busy enough! The Cavan junior side again reached the playoffs as they strive to annex the Junior County title. Player of the year Sean McGivney was a huge part of their excellent season with his energetic style. The players of the year and Guest of Honor will be feted at the clubs dinner dance on December 3rd at Riccardos Under the Bridge in Queens.
