New York Junior Hurling sevens October 23rd.

Rockland is host to a number of hurling sides this Sunday with a seven a side hurling competition on schedule. Rockland, Shannon Gaels, Hoboken and the Bronx lead the way with sides also expected from Allentown and Philadelphia. The playing season opened this year with Rockland winning the first seven's competition back in April but the other sides will be looking to annex the Mary Cosgrove Memorial Cup this weekend. The Junior division installed its board of Officers recently with Jo Jo Sullivan the Chairman for 2012 while David Cosgrove is Vice Chair and Simon Gillespie the division secretary. Sullivan brings a wealth of experience from this involvement at senior and junior level as both a player and mentor, he also reffed this years Junior County final. After a very positive first year return to action for the juniors, he will look to continue the progress. The junior division has rejuvenated the careers of a number of New York based Irish born players while also giving a competition for the American born players who are coming thru the ranks of the minor board. This seven a side will be the first tournament under the leadership of the new board and it promises to be an exciting days hurling.
