MICHAEL CUSACK H.C. DEFEAT INDIANAPOLIS The Michael Cusack Hurling Club of Chicago hosted Indianapolis on June 28th. It was a picture perfect day at Chicagoís Gaelic Park with a slight breeze blowing across the pitch. This was the rematch of the 2008 North American Junior C Final. Indianapolis was the victors last Labor Day in Boston and took home the Junior C cup. The Cusackís were keen to revenge the loss while Indianapolis would most certainly be wanting to continue their winning streak. However, Indianapolis was unable to find their stride as the Cusackís walked away with the larger of the two tallies on the day. Indianapolis sent over two scores in the opening minutes and looked in good form but would not move the scoreboard over for the rest of the first half. After going down 2 points, the Cusackís snapped into shape finding the back of the net twice in as many minutes. From that moment, the yanks from Chicago would go on a relentless scoring spree. The second half saw much of the same action as the first. Following the break, the Cusackís came out firing on all cylinders, netting several more times and pointing from play and placed balls. Indianapolis would make a spirited rally in the closing minutes but the deficit would prove too much to overcome. The match was very much a one sided affair but it was not through a lack of effort. Each ball has hotly contested, each score achieved only after a mammoth effort. The Cusackís defense was outstanding. The wing backs won nearly every ball that came their way. Aided by the tremendous efforts of the midfielders, the forwards were constantly being fed great balls allowing for their scores. Each club displayed some new faces. Most certainly trying out the new blood in anticipation for their championship runs. Indianapolis and the Michael Cusackís will meet again, in Indianapolis, at their tournament the first weekend of August. Both clubs will be heading to Boston this labor day for the North American Championships. The next matches for the Michael Cusack Hurling Club will be Saturday July 11th in St. Louis, MO at the 2nd Annual Gaelic Sports Festival.
