"Its Alright" as Junior Trophy Heads East in '16

Thomas McCurtains Camogs have been crowned British Junior Champions after victory over Brothers Pearce in their first ever All Britain Junior Championship Final in Dulwich last Thursday evening.

Hailing from the East side of London and in their inaugural year, Thomas McCurtains have completed the League and cup double.

The pitch as usual was in immaculate condition and both teams were eager to get stuck into the game. It was Pearces who were first out of the blocks with an early goal from a free followed by a point without reply from McCurtains. The league champions looked shell shocked by the hungrier Pearce's.

Pearce's again had a scoring opportunity with a free exactly where the previous free was but it was blocked on the McCurtains line as the taker went for Goal.

That save proved the turning point. The Forwards started to click. McCurtains got on the score board after 10 mins with a score from Maria McManus. Followed by scores from Cara Cassidy and Captain Michelle Dolan from a free.  It was difficult to see past McCurtains after that point as they cleared up everything the Brother Pearce's through at them and with another Dolan point, they were level.  After 17mins it was end to end stuff with McCurtains Kelly Ann Brennan cancelling out a Brother Pearces point almost directly after.

Then 2 quick fire well taken goals from full forward Rhiona Daly just before half time put McCurtains 02-06 up at half time.

2nd half started again with Thomas McCurtains slow to start and Brother Pearce's opening the scoring with a well taken side-line cut. However we then saw McCurtains go through the gears. Goals from Cara Cassidy (2) and Orla King coupled with points from Aileen O'Leary, Dolan, Brennan and Cassidy completed the game for McCurtains but Brother Pearces made it by no means easy for the East London side with a battle until the very end.

Final score TMC 5-12 Brother Pearses 1-06

Thanks goes The referee Joni Traynor managed the game well, still a player herself, was able to understand the game flow to make it a very entertaining game.

This is the inaugural British Junior Championship and if the standard of Camogie and the number of players is a sign of things to come, then this has been a success.
