U14 Notes

ABC

The club were represented at the recent ABC by 2 U14 teams, both of which would take home silverware on the day. Parnells I would go through the day undefeated, winning their group games against St. Colmcilles, St. Josephs and St. Clarets. We would defeat Sean McDermotts in the quarters before meeting local club St. Keirnans in the semi final. The final would see us pitted against Tara, and an excellent performance would see captain Cormac O'Brien lift the ABC U14 Cup for us for the first time.

Huge congratulations to all of the boys who put in a massive effort on the day: Jack Curd, Aidan Doran, Jojo Thabo, Cormac O'Brien, Darragh Griffin, Beanón Corrigan, Sam Langan, Eoghan Reilly, Ronan Hutchins, Niall Twomey, Paddy Gilroy, Patrick Murphy, Ben Brown and Niall Bradshaw.

Parnells II would also play 3 group matches. This was a really competitive group with only a score or 2 separating the teams in each match. We would narrowly lose to both TCG and John Mitchells, and record a victory against An Ghael London. We would come up against a strong Thomas McCurtains side in the quarter final, a defeat here meant we would have an opportunity to avenge out group defeat to TCG in the Plate final. Down at half time but with a strong breeze at our backs for the second half, we would run out deserved winners with a brilliant, and professional, performance. Captain James Philips would raise the Plate for the club and he was ably assisted on the day by Conor Griffin, Evan Gibbons, Seamus Curry, Daniel Rossiter, Pearse Kerr, Liam Duncan, Conor Moran, Joseph O'Brien, Dan Kershaw, Páraic Byrne, Jamie Logan and Jerome Walsh. A fantastic achievement and effort by the boys, very well done.

Championship Finals

Saturday 16th July would see us contest 2 championship finals at TCG in Greenford, sadly we would be defeated in both, but can take great pride form the efforts put in and to have got there in the first place.

First up was the C Championship final against An Ghael London. We could find no answer to their play in a dominant first half performance, however the boys would give them an almighty fright in the second half with a display of huge courage and desire. The boys really took the game to them which was brilliant to see and a credit to them. Unlucky losers were: Conor Griffin, Jamie Logan, Matthew Sheridan, James Philips, Seamus Curry, Oliver Steward, Pearse Kerr, Dan Kershaw, Páraic Byrne, Jerome Walsh, Joseph O'Brien, Liam Duncan, Patrick O'Brien, Shane Curry and Conor Moran.

In the A Championship final, Dulwich Harps would prove just too strong over the 60 minutes in a highly entertaining game of football. Like the earlier match, we were slow to get going and would find ourselves 10 points down at half time. Knowing a strong start to the second half was required the boys shot out of the blocks and played some scintillating football, at one stage closing the gap to 3. However, this Dulwich side are resolute and would manage to pick of a score or 2 to keep us at bay, and despite a huge effort we would come up just short. Well done to Jack Curd, Aidan Doran, Jojo Thabo, Cormac O'Brien, Darragh Griffin, James Philips, Beanón Corrigan, Sam Langan, Eoghan Reilly, Ronan Hutchins, Niall Twomey, Ben Brown, Patrick Murphy, Niall Bradshaw, Daniel Rossiter, Liam Lavery, Daniel Mullin, Páraic Byrne, Dan Kershaw, Jerome Walsh and Seamus Curry.

Our sympathies to Sam Langan and family on the passing of his grandmother on Saturday morning. Special praise to Sam who still turned out and played in our final despite this upsetting news. Sympathies

Sympathies to the family of Josh Obahar  on the death of his grandmother in Cork

We remember them in our prayers. May their gentle souls Rest In Peace.

The club would like to place on record its thanks to U14 player Paddy Gilroy who has returned to Ireland with his family: parents Pat and Yvonne, and siblings Andrew, Grace and Joey. Paddy is a great boy and fantastic footballer, and it was great to have the Gilroy family as part of our club. We wish them all the best for the future and are sure we will see them again soon.

U14 7's blitz scheduled for 13th August.

Finally, our thanks to all the boys and parents who have put in such a massive effort so far this season, and we wish you all an enjoyable summer wherever that may take you.
