Tara win first round of the intermediate championship

April 25, 2016

Tara Camogie had a fantastic start to their intermediate championship campaign on Sunday having beaten John Mitchells of Birmingham on a score line of 5-7 to 1-9.

This certainly didn't look like the first game of the championship as there was some quality skill and scores shown from both sides. On her debut for Tara, full forward Laura Grills scored a great goal to put the Londoners on the score board straight away. Despite this, Tara remained under pressure with a player down forcing them to play a defensive game for the first 15 mins. This didn't stop some wonderful scores being taken from both sides. Aoife murphy and Nuala o Hagen were particularly on top form for Mitchells while Mary Fenton and Lisa Creamer converted them for Tara. The a score at half time was 2-4 to 6 points in the Londoner's favour.

John Mitchells came out fighting in the second half and straight away win a point and Murphy put it over with ease. Tara had to work hard in their defence and Gen Creane and Joni Traynor stepped up to the plate clearing numerous balls between them. Polly Marmion and Anna Nyhan were always ready in mid field to pick up the clearances with Nyhan converting 1-4 in total for the game.
Tara found their rhythm with ten minutes to go and Kathleen o Keefe and Mary Fenton were doing trojan work in the full forward line. Mitchells never gave up and added a goal and 3 points to the board for the second half. It could have been much more if not for some fantastic saves by Tara goalie Maria Casey. 5-7 to 1-9 was the final score in what was a great game of camogie an ideal start to Tara's championship run.

All focus now turns to the Tara 7s tournament in TCG Greenford this Saturday 30th April. Tara are celebrating their 30th anniversary and there will be a live band and DJ in clubhouse after, all are welcome to attend.
