Player ID probe

August 14, 2014
A player eligibility row has erupted following a London senior hurling championship match.

Father Murphys played Robert Emmetts in a relegation play off last weekend. Questions were raised over the eligibility of a number of the Robert Emmets' players.

The Father Murphy club followed protocol by handing a written request to the Linesman to give to the referee at half time in order for him to have a look at the players in question ID cards.

These ID cards were brought in by the London GAA to prove a player is legally playing with the club on the card. However, despite the request from the Fr Murphy's club, no check was done, which infuriated the club.

Fr Murphys' selector Dave Donoghue told the Irish Post: "We have a card system in London but why don't we use it? I gave a note to the linesman at half time to give to the referee, stating that we wanted checks on 10, 12 and 14 from Robert Emmetts but nothing happened.

"I handed in the piece of paper, but nothing happened."
